Looking Through One Eye is a filmmaking experiment by NYU grad students that explores the ways in which the director’s vision shapes the meaning and message of stories told through narrative film. A filmmaker brings to his or her film all of the weight of personal experience, personal and intellectual interests, visual influences and literary influences, comprising a vision that is solely unique to the person behind the camera.
Our project explores this idea by inviting 5 directors form varied disciplines and with varied interests to film the same short script from their own perspective. The shooting script will be minimal and open to a variety of interpretations. The result will be 5 unique short films that come from the same starting point and unfold as their own visual narrative.
We hope that the project will grow, ultimately allowing a wider pool of filmmakers to take part in the experiment! There is no limit to the number of interpretations we can share.
